Privacy policy

Short version: these apps don't collect anything about you. There is no account to make, no tracking, and no data sent to me. This website is the one exception: it uses Microsoft Clarity to see how its pages are used. Details below.

What I collect

Nothing. RottenTooth Labs does not collect, store, or receive any personal information from you through these apps. I have no servers holding your data, because I have no servers.

What the apps store, and where

Back Pocket and Meeting Clock keep everything on your own device:

• Back Pocket stores the links, posts, notes, and reminders you save.
• Meeting Clock stores your attendees, hourly rates, saved setups, and meeting history.

This information stays on your iPhone or iPad. Delete the app and it is gone.

iCloud

If you turn on iCloud sync in Back Pocket, your saved items sync through your own private iCloud account so they appear on your other devices. That transfer is between you and Apple. I cannot see it, and it is governed by Apple's privacy policy, not mine.

Location and link previews

If you set a location reminder in Back Pocket, iOS checks your location on your device to know when you're nearby. Your location is never sent to me or anyone else.

When you save a link, Back Pocket loads that page directly from its website to show a title and thumbnail, the same as opening it in Safari. Nothing about you is sent to me.

Purchases

Pro upgrades and the Fart Back Lab Pass are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. I never see your name, email, payment method, or card details. Apple gives me anonymous sales totals, nothing that identifies a buyer.

Analytics and tracking

There is no analytics software, no advertising, and no third-party tracking in any of these apps. Nothing follows you between apps or across the web.

Apple provides aggregate statistics such as download counts and crash reports to every developer, and only if you have opted into sharing them with developers in your iOS settings. Those are anonymous and I cannot connect them to any individual.

This website

Everything above is about the apps, and the apps collect nothing. This website, rottentoothlabs.com, is different. It uses Microsoft Clarity, so I can see how people use the pages: for example, whether visitors from TikTok or Instagram find the App Store button.

Clarity records anonymous usage: which pages you visit, where you click and tap, how far you scroll, and replays of those visits. It masks the text on the page and anything you type, so it never captures what you enter in a form. The site tells Clarity not to use cookies, so it sets none and cannot recognise you on a later visit. Clarity is not used on the /fartback page.

Microsoft processes this data under the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

The Dunk Tank Heroes page has a sign-up form. If you use it, your email address is stored with Netlify, the site's host, and used once: to tell you when the game ships. To be removed, email me and I'll delete it.

Children

Back Pocket and Meeting Clock are not directed at children under 13. None of these apps collects information from anyone, including children.

Fart Back

Fart Back listens for a fart, measures it, and plays it back over a cartoon. Here is exactly what it does with your data.

The microphone

Fart Back uses the microphone only while its LISTENING screen is open, and you start that yourself: by tapping PULL MY FINGER, using the Fart Back shortcut or widget, or tapping a Fart Back link a friend sent you. Listening stops as soon as a fart is caught, after 30 seconds, when you tap FALSE ALARM, or when you leave the app. It never listens in the background. The recording is analysed on your phone; there is no server to send it to.

Recordings and videos

Your recording and the video made from it are never uploaded. The video is put together on your phone and kept in the app's temporary storage, which it clears when you start your next one. It leaves your phone only if you send it yourself through the iOS share sheet, to whoever and wherever you choose. The app sends nothing on its own.

What it keeps on your phone

To keep score, Fart Back saves a record of each report it files: the report number, date, the name it was given, its measurements (length, pitch, loudness and number of bursts), the level graph shown on the result, any award it earned, and which cartoon played. These are measurements, not audio. No sound is kept. The app also stores your bests, and the name you sign your videos with, if you choose to give one.

All of this stays on your phone, and in your device backup if you use one. Delete the app and it is gone.

Your name in the link

When you send a video, the message includes a link to rottentoothlabs.com/fartback with your name after the # (for example, rottentoothlabs.com/fartback#Sam). Browsers never send the part after the # to the website, so your name reaches your friend's phone but never reaches me or my web host. The page reads it inside the browser to show who farted, and doesn't store it or send it anywhere. If you haven't set a name, the link carries none.

The web page

The /fartback page is hosted on Netlify, like the rest of rottentoothlabs.com. If Fart Back is installed, tapping the link usually opens the app directly without loading the page. When a browser does load it, Netlify's servers receive the standard details any browser sends to any website: your IP address, your browser and device type, the page address (without the part after the #), and the time. Netlify may keep these in server logs to run and secure its service. I don't add any analytics, cookies, or trackers to the page.

No accounts, no tracking

Fart Back has no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no tracking. It contains no third-party code and makes no network requests of its own. That is why its App Store listing says Data Not Collected.

Children

Fart Back collects no personal information from anyone, including children. A recording leaves the phone only as a video the person holding it chooses to send, and nothing ever comes to me.

Your data, your call

Because nothing leaves your device, there is nothing for me to hand over or delete on your behalf. To remove everything, delete the app. To remove synced items, delete them in the app or turn off iCloud sync.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version appears on this page with a new date. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
